Solar Electric Rebates can save you up to $13,000 on the cost of a 2 kW solar system!!!
Solar electricity has in the past been more expensive than getting your power from the power company, but no more. Recently two programs have become available, offering up to $11,000 in rebates, in addition to the $2,000 rebate from the Federal Government thats been available for several years. I'm sure you will agree $13,000 back is a much better deal than $2,000 back!!

The State of New Hampshire recently passed, and Governor Lynch in August signed a bill establishing a program giving $3 a watt rebate, up to a maximum of $6,000 (or 2 kW). This program is new, in fact the application paperwork still hasn't been published, but all sales after the effective date of the bill's passage are eligible. The money for this program is coming from the state's assessment on utility companies for not meeting the Regional Climate Change Compact goals. Rebates will be available starting in January 2009 for new systems purchased and installed after the date of the bill's signing.

New Hampshire Electric Coop also is offering up to a $5,000 rebate for up to 2 kW systems. To be eligible you need to be a NHEC customer. Their coverage tends to be north of Lake Winnipesaukee, but includes parts of Alton, Gilford, Laconia, Sanbornton, New Hampton and Andover and north. The NHEC rebate is good only through Dec 31st, but I would hope it would be continued in some form in the future.

Unfortunately PSNH does NOT offer any rebates currently, but there is good news coming from them for owners of solar electric systems, to be announced in the next year or so (not a rebate, but a better deal on producing electricity).

The Federal Government rebate also expires at the end of this year. This is the fourth, and possibly last, year of the rebate. Several votes on extending (and even increasing) the Federal Rebate have taken place this summer, but every time partisan posturing for the Presidential campaign has shot down the extension. I hope that the extension/renewal will be passed after the election in time for the end of the year, but it is not a sure thing.

So, the message is: buy now, especially if you are an NHEC customer. Getting up to 60% back in rebates on a roughly $22,000 - $24,000 purchase is a GREAT DEAL. Call or come in for more information.
